DECEMBER IN AMERICA

It has been difficult to make the choice but I had to cancel my trip to Cape Town in order to go to New York, where an 'exciting opportunity' - that I'm not allowed to reveal at the moment - is offered to me. You will see the result early next year. I hope to make it in South Africa soon!

So here is my updated schedule:

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Dec. 4 (I know it's not in America...)
New York City: Dec. 5-9
São Paulo: Dec 11-18 (final event of Lacoste Evolução Francesa)
Buenos Aires: Dec 19-21

Picture taken in Wellington. More of them in my visual diary.

London Fashion Items from Manila's Trash

fashion accessoriesfashion accessories

When I was young, my mother would told me that "there is money in trash" (may pera sa basura). But after reading an article about London's hot items from Manila's trash in Yahoo news, I can say that you cannot only find money in the trash but you can also have fashion items from it.

According to Yahoo news, there is a warehouse neat the Smokey Mountain dump here in the Philippines that employed slum-dwellers to turn trashes into fashion items. Aside from teddy bears that are made from cloth and other materials, the workers are creating purses and handbags from toothpaste tubes. Meanwhile, glossy magazines became colorful bracelets and necklaces.

Checkout the models wearing fashion accessories made from recycled magazines.

Jane Walker, founder of the Philippine Christian Foundation, said that the bags cost 100 pounds sterling (165 dollars) or more in London. She also added that 200 bags have been shipped to London and the foundation must turn down some orders because they can no longer meet the increasing demands. The foundation aims to produce shoes and slippers from discarded car tyres for an American firm.

I am so happy with this fashion news. With these products from our country, you can be fashionable with a good cause. You can look good and care for Mother Earth at the same time.

Ordrupgaard Museum, Copenhagen Denmark

Zaha Hadid designed the Ordrupgård Museum extension at Jægersborg Dyrehave north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The project was completed in 2005. The Brutalist design doubles exhibition space for the museum's Danish and French art from the 19th and 20th century.

The form of the addition folds from the natural landscape with glazed and structural elements that relate it to the existing museum. Terraced loops provide visual connection back to the existing building. Like many modern museum, the courtyard entrance leads to a foyer that navigates to various wings. Overhead lighting points visitors to further spaces.

Though different in concept, the form is similar to the De Young museum in San Francisco.
