Did You know that more than two million women in the United States have breast implants. In 2008, over 300,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed in the U.S. The average age of a woman who gets implants is 34. 50 percent percent of women have a bachelor's degree, and 90 percent get them after they have had kids. Most women increase by 2 cup sizes after the implants. Implants have been used since at least 1895 to augment the size or shape of women's breasts.

According to a U.S. market research firm, the most popular American bra size is currently 36C, up from 1991 when it was 34B.

French porn star Lolo Ferrari

The late French porn star Lolo Ferrari has the world's largest breast implants. During her lifetime, she had over 22 surgeries to make her breasts 73 inches round! The Guinness Book of Records says each of her breasts weighed 6.2 pounds and contained three litres of saline. Her original size was a 37 inch bust.

Sleeping facedown won't make your breasts smaller, but it will change their shape over time.

Bra sizing was introduced in year 1938 (A,B,C, and D cups). 

During recorded history, women have used garments and devices to cover, restrain, or lift their breasts. In the Minoan civilization era, around 1400BC, female athletes could be depicted wearing braziers or bikini like undergarments.

Now the Romans on the other hand, they were male oriented, so the women would actually bind their breasts to keep them closer to their chest to keep them minimized.

The word brazier, in old French, literally means arm protector. The word brazier was used as a chest plate, kind of like a suit of armor. As time developed, the corset, which was similar to that same chest plate was then referred to as brazier.

The first bra was invented in 1813 by Mary Phelps Jacobs. She called her invention the Carr say Crosby. Why? I don’t know because it’s much easier to say bra.

A man actually invented the padded bra to protect female athletes during sporting events. Who would have known that today we like padded bras to enhance our bust lines?

Not only are women wearing bras these days, some men are as well. They may suffer from a medical condition known as gynecomastia, or it could possibly be because of obesity. The men chose to wear these bras for support and comfort.

 A study was published by the New England journal of medicine that stated men who stare at a woman’s breast for 10 min a day cannot only improve their health, but extend their lives for about 5-6 years. 


Calculating cup volume and breast weight

The average breast weighs about 0.5 kilograms (1.1 lb).Each breast contributes to about 4–5% of the body fat and thus 1% of the total body weight of an average woman.

The density of fatty tissue is more or less equal to 0.9 for all women. The volume of a woman's individual breasts can vary. Bra designers can give it the shape of a hemisphere or an hemi-spheroid by fitting it in a cup. If the bust is considered essentially a half-sphere, its volume V is determined by the following formula.
V={2 \pi r^3 \over 3}     V={2.1 \times r^3}     V={0.26 \times D^3}

where D is the diameter of the sphere, and r is its radius.

If the breast is shaped more like a spheroid, the designer might use a formula like the following.

V={0.26 \times D_b^2 \times h}

where Db equals diameter of the hemi-spheroid's base and h equals the height of the spheroid. Other formulas can be derived as needed to design bras for differently shaped breasts. All of these formulas assume that breasts conform to a mathematical model.

Cups give a hemi sperical shape to breasts and underwires give shape to cups. So the curvature radius of the underwire is the key parameter to determine volume and weight of the breast. The same underwire are used for the cup of size 36A, 34B, 32C, 30D and etc... so those cup have the same volume. The reference number of underwire size are based on B cup bra , for exemple underwire size 32 is for 32B cup (and 34A, 30C...). An underwire size 30 with has a curvature diameter of 3 inch 5/6 ≈ 9.7 cm and this diameter increase of ⅓ inch ≈ 0.847 cm by size.
