Dan Rooney - hypocrite; Ben Roethlisberger; Ernie Holmes

Dan Rooney is the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have been disillusioned with him ever since he credited Barack Obama for the Steelers' victory in Super Bowl 43.

Barack Obama has never had reason to demand the return of his 30 pieces of silver.

Now Dan Rooney has been conspicuously noncommittal about Ben Roethlisberger in the face of a scandal in which quarterback Ben Roethlisberger somehow avoided criminal charges in Georgia. Rooney refused to defend Roethlisberger, preferring instead to praise the backup quarterback regarding the backup's charitable work in Pittsburgh:
"My job is in Ireland," added Rooney, now the U.S. ambassador to that country, indicating that the team in his absence is run by his son, president Art Rooney II, along with coach Mike Tomlin and director of player personnel Kevin Colbert. "I would just say that it's a serious matter. And it's being handled properly with Art, Mike and Kevin Colbert. I think they're handling it very well. The commissioner as you know saw Ben [in New York Tuesday]. I don't have any more to say."

Asked about the general behavior his family expects from Steelers, Rooney -- standing with state AFL-CIO officers, his son, Jim, and Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch -- said: "I think the players have to be special. And we have a special man here in Charlie, what he's done, what his foundation does as far as children in this community is exemplary. That's the way it should be. Everybody makes mistakes. But I don't even want to talk about that."
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - 4-15-2010

This and other noncommittal behavior has been interpreted by many in Pittsburgh as a public rebuke to Roethlisberger by the Steelers. The Steelers are prepared to suspend Roethlisberger related to the Georgia incident.

The Steelers' (and Dan Rooney's) attitude toward Roethlisberger stands in marked contrast to a different incident in the 1970's when one of the Steelers was arrested for shooting a police officer. In 1973, defensive tackle Ernie Holmes fired a gun at trucks on the highway and a police helicopter, wounding one officer and endangering the entire helicopter crew. After a large manhunt, Holmes surrendered. Dan Rooney was supportive of his tackle in that case:
This time the Steelers helped him out. [Coach Chuck] Noll and Dan Rooney went to the jail where he [Holmes] was being held and the Chief [Dan's father Art] visited him nearly every day in the Western Pennsylvania Psychiatric Hospital, where he stayed for almost two months. He pleaded guilty on three counts of intent to kill and was placed on five years probation.
Roy Blount, Jr., About Three Bricks Shy of a Load, (1974) p. 57

Ernie Holmes

The Rooneys' support of Holmes was very public and contributed to the Rooneys' image as "caring" owners. Ernie Holmes was never suspended.

So Dan Rooney stands by a man who shot a policeman (and pled guilty) only to abandon his quarterback who was charged with nothing. As another Post-Gazette columnist noted:
There also is pressure on the Steelers -- again, some of it racial -- to come down hard on Roethlisberger.

Whether the Rooneys are simply yielding to racial pressure or are determined to make the Steelers into an affirmative action football team, the effect is the same. While I do not defend Roethlisberger, make no mistake that the Steelers' choice of who to discipline is based not on moral outrage, but the kind of political calculation that landed Dan Rooney in Ireland.

Quote of the day - George Jonas - multiculturism

Multicultural Canada is turning from a country of two nations into a country of a dozen xenoliths: Inward looking, hostile fragments, jealously guarding their ethno-religious distinctions as entitlements, while resenting the entitlements of others as privileges. It's scant consolation that, being culturally silver-plated, such groups are likely to express their sectarian sentiments in idiomatic suburban English, sometimes peppered with current slang, Internet lingo or even mock-liberal concerns.

"By their fruits shall ye know them." We disdained the American melting pot and embraced multiculturalism instead. We forgot that the opposite of integration is disintegration.

Obama plays the race card; Professor Henry Louis Gates; Tavis Smiley; Mark Steyn; The big picture

The nation has become embroiled in another racial controversy this week, as President Obama lashed out at local police officers who arrested a black Harvard professor. Conservatives who attack the President by getting bogged down in the minutiae of the arrest are missing the point.

The same story repeats itself every time.

(1) Some racial incident occurs.
(2) The left predictably cries "racism."
(3) The left predictably links the incident to the entire US history.
(4) President Obama either (a) attacks America for its racist past or (b) flies to a foreign country and apologizes to terrorists for America's racist past.

There is no point in arguing about what some Harvard professor said to the police or whether the police should have arrested him. The real point is that the election of the nation's first black president has accomplished nothing. The sequence of events listed above has been repeating itself for decades [except for the part about Obama making it worse.]

We elected a black president, yet white America receives no credit for this fact. We are still accused of racism at every opportunity. Overpaid taxpayer funded PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley has stated that Obama's election was only a "down payment" on what white America owes to African Americans.

Barack Hussein Obama, the candidate, held out the promise of ending bitterness in American politics. Obama was elected with the help of a few moderate swing voters that abandoned the Republican party in favor of "change" and the promise of an end to divisive politics. Those who thought they were voting for Ghandi or the Dalai Lama or Jesus Christ are now surprised to learn that they ended up with Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson with a better haircut and less jewelry. There is little that Obama said in speaking out against the police officers that would not have been said by Jackson or Sharpton.

In fact, it seems that the Obamedia owes an apology to Bill Clinton. In 2008, Clinton was denounced after he discounted the South Carolina primary (in which Obama beat Hillary) by comparing that primary to previous South Carolina primaries in which Jesse Jackson emerged victorious. It turns out that Clinton's comparison was closer to the truth than the Obamedia would have had us believe at that time. As president, Obama has played the race card just as clumsily and dishonestly as Jackson ever did during his heyday.

Mark Steyn is among the few that have placed the incident in its proper context:
A black president, a black governor and a black mayor all agree with a black Harvard professor that he was racially profiled by a white-Latino-black police team, headed by a cop who teaches courses in how to avoid racial profiling. The boundless elasticity of such endemic racism suggests that the "post-racial America" will be living with blowhard grievance-mongers like professor Gates unto the end of time.

In a fairly typical "he said/VIP said" incident, the VIP was the author of his own misfortune but, with characteristic arrogance, chose to ascribe it to systemic racism, Jim Crow, lynchings, the Klan, slavery, Jefferson impregnating Sally Hemmings, etc. And so it goes, now and forever.

As long as one white person in America is not penniless or holds a job or owns anything that might be taxed by the government or taken by force, the race-baiting establishment MSM/DNC will cry "racism." Black on white racism does not stop merely because the blacks have seized power. In fact, with more power in the hands of the reverse racists, we can expect race card usage to intensify.

Somewhere in the United States there is another innocent policemen or local official or average homeowner or financially strapped employer that will be the next victim of the race card. As Mark Steyn wrote, "[a]nd so it goes, now and forever."

Quote of the day - Ann Coulter [Miguel Estrada, Sonia Sotomayor]

After aggressively blocking Estrada's nomination to a federal appeals court during Bush's first term solely on the grounds that he is Hispanic and was likely headed for the Supreme Court -- according to Senate Democrat staff memos -- now Democrats have the audacity to rave that Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice!

The real meaning of Obama's Ayers-Dohrn-Manson connection; Helter-Skelter;

We have heard much this year about Obama and his connection with William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn (and the Weather Underground terrorist group) despite the MSM/DNC blackout on this subject. But we have not heard much about Dohrn's endorsement of Charles Manson and the Manson gang's 1969 murder spree. Frontpage fills in some details:

In 1969, Ayers and his wife convened a "War Council" in Flint Michigan, whose purpose was to launch a military front inside the United States with the purpose of helping Third World revolutionaries conquer and destroy it. Taking charge of the podium, dressed in a high-heeled boots and a leather mini-skirt – her signature uniform – Dorhn incited the assembled radicals to join the war against "Amerikkka" and create chaos and destruction in the "belly of the beast." Her voice rising to a fevered pitch, Dohrn raised three fingers in a "fork salute" to mass murderer Charles Manson whom she proposed as a symbol to her troops. Referring to the helpless victims of the Manson Family as the "Tate Eight" (the most famous was actress Sharon Tate) Dohrn shouted:

Dig It. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, they even shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach! Wild!

[This would not be the last time that the Weather Underground and its leaders would advocate violence and revolution.]

Charles Manson - original dealer of the race card.

This is not just "another bad thing" that Dohrn and Ayers did [that Obama will claim no responsibility for despite his alliance with those two people]. My point is not simply that "Dohrn is bad, and Obama should not be her friend" [although that is quite a legitimate point]. Dohrn's endorsement of Manson means much more than that. Dohrn's endorsement of Manson is symbolic of the race war that the left has promoted for decades.

Manson used the term "Helter Skelter" to describe his goals at the time of the murders. "Helter Skelter" now has many meanings, as individuals have used the term to describe generally chaotic situations. But Manson had a specific meaning in mind. He planned to use the killing spree to ignite a race war.

Bernardine Dohrn - "Dig it."

Manson believed that the Tate murders would be blamed on black people and that whites would retaliate, thus sparking a race war, resulting in the death of all whites (except for Manson and his gang, who would be in hiding). Manson would then be free to emerge from hiding and rule the black people that remained. According to witness testimony, Manson's plans for the African-American were quite clear:

Charlie would scratch his fuzzy head and kick him in the butt and tell him to go pick the cotton and go be a good nigger, and he would live happily ever after . . .

What does this have to do with the election of 2008? The left has promoted race hostility in every election (including this one), and in every issue, for decades. Since the O.J. trial, the tactic has been called, "playing the race card." But the practice began much earlier than that.

In short, the left and the MSM/DNC have been trying, over the course of several decades, to do what Manson wanted to do with a brief murder spree. The left has simply found a more effective and less obvious way of carrying out those plans. Manson is locked up and forgotten as the deranged psychopath that he was, but the left moves toward the same goals (using slower and surer means). While those on the left (except for Dohrn/Ayers) may not appreciate all that they share with Manson (or even know who he is), the similar goals do exist.

Northwestern University Law Professor Bernardine Dohrn - "they killed those pigs . . . "

More specifically, we saw what plans Manson had for the African-Americans that would emerge victorious from Manson's Helter Skelter race war. The question now arises, what plans does Manson's admirer Bernardine Dohrn have for Barack Obama, now that Obama is apparently poised to seize power in America? How do Dohrn and Ayers really view Obama? While Manson most likely did not let any African-Americans in on his plans in 1969, did Dohrn share her goals with Obama during Obama's rise to power? Who is the follower and who is the leader? Remember that Ayers and Dohrn are not simply radicals who live in Obama's neighborhood. Ayers and Dohrn were instrumental in Obama's rise to power and the funding of his early activities and campaigns, including Obama's association with ACORN. Is Bernardine Dohrn set to fulfill Charles Manson's vision as a result of this week's election? Only time will tell.

Race card; 1960 election; Richard Nixon; Six Crises

As we watch the MSM/DNC play the race card in order to drag Obama over the finish line, we must remember how long the race card has been a part of the MSM/DNC playbook and how many variations that card has. When we see that the MSM/DNC uses this tactic every time and that it sounds the same each time, the ploy loses some of its effectiveness.

In 1960, the MSM/DNC used religion instead of race, but the tactic was the same. Richard Nixon compiled a list of headlines from the 1960 race for his book, Six Crises:

DEMOCRATS HIT BACK ON RELIGION (New York Times). JACK'S BROTHER SAYS RELIGION TOP ISSUE (Columbia, S.C., State). RELIGIOUS ISSUE STRESSED AT KENNEDY CONFERENCE (Nashville Banner). JOHNSON BLASTS 'HATERS' ATTACKS ON CATHOLICS (Washington Post). BOB KENNEDY SCORES STRESS ON RELIGION (Cleveland Plain Dealer). CREED ISSUE MUST BE MET, BOB KENNEDY SAYS HERE (Cincinatti Enquirer). BOB KENNEDY SAYS CATHOLIC ISSUE WANES (New York Herald Tribune). MRS. FDR HITS RELIGIOUS BIAS IN TALK TO NEGROES (Baltimore Sun). UAW PAMPHLET LIKENS KENNEDY FOES TO BIGOTS (Washington Star).
p. 366 [1962]

Remember this the next time that some Obama critic is accused of bigotry, racism, etc. The script was written decades ago. Only the names change.

Sarah Palin; Sambo; bitch

The latest (?) smear is that Sarah Palin referred to B. Hussein Obama as a "Sambo" who beat the "bitch" - Hillary Clinton. The same people are spreading this rumor who would not entertain the thought that Hillary Clinton called someone a "F---- Jew B-----" and who called Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele a "Sambo."

[I place a question mark after "latest" because there will be 10 more smears by the time I hit the "publish" button.]

As Michelle Malkin wrote, "[f]or every nutball blogger who spreads it, there should be 50 to defuse, debunk, and beat it down."

The left does not even care that this smear will be widely disbelieved. They are playing to their base. The leftist base operates outside the realm of human civilization. They exist only to destroy civilization and so foul the political process that they will win even if they lose. There is nothing more important to the left than maintaining an energized, unreasoning, rampaging, destructive base. To the left, credibility pales in comparison to having such a base.

update - Saturday night -
If you are an idiot searching Google for dirt on Sarah Palin, you have been suckered. Thousands of idiots were led here over the past week in a vain search for "Sarah Palin bikini photos." Now, hundreds more are being baited here in a vain search for evidence that Sarah Palin once said "Sambo." Next week, I may bait you back here to find evidence of some other frivolous accusation. But the fault is yours. If you were not desparate to elect an indefensible candidate, you would not be so afraid of Sarah Palin that you would chase every wild goose.

"I have a dream" - 45 year anniversary - Obama acceptance speech.

August 28, 2008 will be the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. That same night, Barack Hussein Obama will deliver his acceptance speech to the Democrat national convention. In trying to turn this event into something historic, the MSM/DNC will repeatedly remind us all of this connection for the next three months. ("As we approach the 45 year anniversary of Dr. Reverand Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic speech, Barack Obama prepares to make history himself. . . . etc. etc.")

But the MSM/DNC has a problem. The MLK speech has been so hyped for the past 4decades that neither Obama (nor anyone else) can live up to it.

But regardless of how well Obama actually performs, the MSM/DNC will treat it better than the Gettysburg Address and the Sermon on the Mount. Here is a sample of what MSM/DNC mouthpieces will say about Obama's speech:

- "truly historic"

- "transcends politics"

- "a new era has begun"

- "I will always remember where I was when I heard THE SPEECH."

- "something to tell our grandchildren about"

- "my leg is tingling"

The analysis and commentary is already written. The decision has been made. Obama's acceptance speech will be great. You will love it and worship it and be inspired - or else.

But now the hard part begins. Obama's handlers at the MSM/DNC must actually write something for Obama that sounds remotely like those post-speech comments. You can bet that speechwriters from all over the world are devoting themselves to this task. They have a little more than two months and three weeks (assuming they have not been working on it already for the past few months) to fill the teleprompter with stirring words.

The speech may include a new laundry list of things to dream about. We may discover that Obama has been dreaming about the end to war (the teleprompter will avoid the phrase "peace in our time") or the restoration of America's reputation among foreign nations. He will dream about the end of bitter, divisive politics and the rebirth of prosperity, where Americans can afford to keep their homes without fear of foreclosure. He will dream about the end of fear generally.

Obama will dream about the restoration of all of those industrial jobs that we have lost (but it is doubtful that the teleprompter will contain the word "China"). The speechwriters may contrast the "nightmare" of global warming with Obama's dream of a clean environment. The speechwriters may contrast many such "nightmares" with Obama's dreams. The nightmare of war, the nightmare of those hurricanes that Bush sent to New Orleans, the nightmare of all of that domestic spying that Bush/Halliburton is doing to this country and its legitimate dissidents like Khalid Sheik Mohhamed. But the nightmare theme will be downplayed, as the speech must be positive and must promise the moon.

Obama will dream that every child will be a planned and wanted child, who will then have access to government health care, midnight basketball, targeted tax credits for tuition and the end to the fear of being gunned down in school.

----------------------------------------------
update - I almost forgot - Obama's dream will also include the end of lobbyists in American politics (except for NARAL, unions, the trial lawyers, environmentalists, etc. etc.).
end update
----------------------------------------------

These are among the many dreams that speechwriters are busy cobbling together for the Obama acceptance speech.

It will be fun that evening to watch the commentators feign genuine emotion at hearing the speech, the basic substance of which they will already know (or can easily predict).

Two and 1/2 months may not be enough, as the MSM/DNC has 45 years of hype to live up to.

I think we can make a pretty good guess as to who Barack Hussein Obama's first Supreme Court nominee will be. I wonder how long it will be before Arrington tries to kick the white people out of the Supreme Court.

Quotes of the day - Mark Steyn - Obama racial speech

It makes no difference to white folks when a black pastor inflicts kook genocide theories on his congregation: The victims are those in his audience who make the mistake of believing him. The Reverend Wright has a hugely popular church with over 8,000 members, and Senator Obama assures us that his pastor does good work by “reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDs.” But maybe he wouldn’t have to quite so much “reaching out” to do and maybe there wouldn’t be quite so many black Americans “suffering from HIV/AIDs” if the likes of Wright weren’t peddling lunatic conspiracy theories to his own community.

-----------------------------------

Nonetheless, last week, Barack Obama told America: “I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.”

What is the plain meaning of that sentence? That the paranoid racist ravings of Jeremiah Wright are now part of the established cultural discourse in African-American life and thus must command our respect?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let us take the senator at his word when he says he chanced not to be present on AIDs Conspiracy Sunday, or God Damn America Sunday, or U.S. of KKKA Sunday, or the Post-9/11 America-Had-It-Coming Memorial Service. A conventional pol would have said he was shocked, shocked to discover Afrocentric black liberation theology going on at his church. But Obama did something far more audacious: Instead of distancing himself from his pastor, he attempted to close the gap between Wright and the rest of the country, arguing, in effect, that the guy is not just his crazy uncle but America’s, too.

B. Hussein Obama, faith experience and Reverend Jeremiah

I don't need to hear B. Hussein Obama's speech today. I have a pretty good idea what he is going to say. Obama's lawyers have been working overtime and he has been practicing his sincerity.

Obama will spend the first portion of the speech speaking in bland generalities establishing the following facts:

(1) Racism is wrong.
(2) Unity is good.
(3) The politics of the past must stop.
(4) diviseness has no place in America anymore.
(5) Obama has courageously lived his life by these ideals.
(6) Obama is proud to live in a country where one so brave as himself can overcome racism, disunity, the past, capitalism, and other bad stuff to lead the country in bold pronouncements against war.
(7) Obama is a deeply faithful Christian (just like his Kenyan grandmother) who practices the Christian virtues of high taxes, socialized medicine and big government bureaucracy - just like Jesus.

Obama will talk of his "faith experience" in the same way that Al Gore spoke of his "faith tradition."

After inspiring all of us thusly, Obama will spend the last portion of this speech minimizing the importance of the Reverend Jeremiah. Obama will marginalize the words Jeremiah has spoken, while making himself the hero for refusing to abandon his friend while making clear that Obama himself is above those words.

By the time Obama is done we will wonder what all the fuss was about.

The networks will interview people who will express relief that the controversy is finally over. Instant polls will show that viewers are unconcerned with the private beliefs of the friends of audaciously hopeful candidates.

The network commentaters will remind us that the voters are more concerned with issues such as Bush' creation of hurricanes and global warming. They will tell us how silly it is that people actually say Obama's middle name (the "H" word).

They will tell us how uplifting, hopeful, audacious and courageous the speech was.

Long after tomorrow, historians will point to March 18, 2008 as a turning point. This will be known as the day that Obama confronted the forces of racism that have ruled the U.S. since the time of Christ.

And we will be there to witness history - but only if we are audaciousness enough to hope.

The unraveling Duke "rape" case should be a wake-up call, both for blacks and for liberals, on how easy it is for their emotions to be manipulated by even a third-rate demagogue with a flimsy fraud. Quote of the day - Joe Sobran

An agenda of power underlies -- and belies -- most rhetorical appeals for variety. If we really want "diversity," centralizing power and outlawing local differences are the worst ways to achieve it. But the same people who most loudly insist on diversity usually want forced busing, race and sex quotas, compulsory integration and bureaucratic supervision to ensure hair-splitting "equality" in every facet of life. They are suspicious of -- no, downright hostile to -- private property, state and local government, popular traditions and, above all, religion.

"To watch the complete destruction of this foolish and evil man, Michael Nifong — despite the mainstream media's best efforts to portray him as a modern-day Atticus Finch — is as great a moment as the annihilation of Dan Rather. Katie Couric's self-immolation is just a bonus — when it rains, it pours!

It is as great as Clinton's impeachment (which The New York Times is already claiming never happened in a front-page Week in Review article by Sam Tanenhaus on May 20).

The fact that we keep catching liberals in such blatant falsehoods shows you what they used to be able to get away with."

Quote of the day - Ann Coulter

In 1960, whites were 90 percent of the country. The Census Bureau recently estimated that whites already account for less than two-thirds of the population and will be a minority by 2050. Other estimates put that day much sooner.

One may assume the new majority will not be such compassionate overlords as the white majority has been. If this sort of drastic change were legally imposed on any group other than white Americans, it would be called genocide. Yet whites are called racists merely for mentioning the fact that current immigration law is intentionally designed to reduce their percentage in the population.
