Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architecture and Gruzen Samton designed the new Cooper Building, completed in 2009. It contains classrooms, laboratory, and studio facilities. The 9 story building features a full atrium with careful connections vertically and across skybridges. Oddly-angled walls encourage all kinds of permeable connections of space through light and sound.
A semi-transparent steel screen outside is angled and cut for views and light control. Exterior drapes can be swiveled to control light, and 75% of the interior is daylit, which contributed to the building's Silver LEED rating.
