SESC Pompeia, São Paulo Brazil

Lina Bo Bardi converted an abandoned factory into the SESC Pompéia in São Paulo, Brazil, completed in 1986. The reused structure contains workshops, exhibition spaces, a library, and theater. Angular bridges connect industrial landmark with a new Brutalist structure, which contains red "Spanish civil war holes" peering out of the rough concrete. Sports events take place in this facility. The narrow bridge-way between the buildings gives way to a sprawling public zone for leisure and gathering.

This project has fast become a cultural center for concerts, community, and education.
