Marcel Breuer and Associates designed the Saint Francis de Sales Parish in Muskegon, Michigan, completed in 1966. Known for his curving Brutalist forms, Breuer employed a hyperbolic paraboloid with angled openings for function daylighting. A massive cross relief sits below a cantilevered belfry. By pouring concrete in 8 foot sections, contractor Mike Lombard was able to achieve warped transforming walls and unite the whole with a simple module.
