The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, part of the federal government, also provides the renowned Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. Students must be Pell Grant recipients to even be considered. The Feds’ goal in all this generosity is to shore up the U.S. in the realm of global diversity by boosting the numbers of multicultural and disadvantaged students with access to top-notch international programs. No longer will students be disenfranchised based on financial, ethnic and even educational grounds. Preference is given to students attending community colleges and those who have never participated in an abroad study program. Up to $5,000 in scholarships. Over 700 of these awards are up for grabs.
