Why: A conversation:
CHANDLER: You know what we need to invent? What.
ME: What?
CHANDLER: Well, you know how Brussels sprouts grow?
ME: No.
CHANDLER: Well, it's kind of like corn. Like a stalk. They grow around. I don't really know how to describe it.
Answer: Ooohhhh:
I guess I always assumed they grew out of the ground like little cabbages.

The More You Know: Brussels sprouts happen to be among my favorite vegetables, right up there with spinach and, I dunno, baby carrots.
Forerunners to modern Brussels sprouts were likely cultivated in ancient Rome. Brussels sprouts as we now know them were grown possibly as early as the 13th century in what is now Belgium. The first written reference dates to 1587.Also, I'm not telling you what we're inventing, but it's a really good idea. Look for it in stores in 2011!
