Winner Selected In Greatest Hip-Hop Song (Of The VIBE Era) Tournament
Hip-hop has long been associated with the criminal lifestyle often found in the lyrics and bios of it’s biggest stars.
However, the Greatest Hip-Hop Song (Of The VIBE Era) Tournament proves that rap music is more. The fierce, fan-powered competition concluded as two classic records—Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “Tha Crossroads” and 2Pac’s “Dear Mama”—squared off in the final round.
Not like the typical bravado-bulked or trap-rap tracks, both finalists represented hip-hop’s universality—Pac’s maternal celebration and Bone Thugs’ grief-filled death dedication.
There could only be one winner, though. The bracket-styled competition ended neck-and-neck, with the lightning-quick spitters from Cleveland sqeezing past Afeni’s son with 52 percent of final-round votes.

The number one seed from the Midwest Division coasted much of the tournament, pounding Da Brat’s “Funkdafied” in the first round, before handing Eminem two losses ("Lose Yourself" and "Stan"). Bone Thugs-N-Harmony barely passed Wu-Tang Clan in the final four by 3.9 percent of votes.
“Dear Mama” was more of the Cinderella song here, though. Seated at the bottom of the West Coast division at no. 7, the Mother’s Day favorite easily knocked off fellow Pac jam "I Get Around" (2), grappled with number-one seed "Nuthin' But A G-Thang" for a tough victory and beat out Ice Cube's "Today Was A Good Day" in the elite 8. Then, "Dear Mama" zipped by OutKast's Dirty South finalist "Ms. Jackson," to advance to the finals.
Check out the full bracket and all standings here. Congrats to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony!
