Kunsthal Museum, Rotterdam Netherlands

OMA (Rem Koolhaas) designed the Kunsthal Rotterdam, completed in 1992.

The compact space squeezes between the city's museum park and the noisy Maasboulevard. With a series of ramps and carefully treated structural details, the cityscape enters the building and is transformed as it meets the other side. The intersecting paths and vertical ramps divide the space, with concrete, glazing, and translucent wall materials accessing connections.

One of OMA's early projects, a simple scheme became increasingly complex, as is always the case with their designs.
