Bullring City Centre, Birmingham UK

Benoy Architect oversaw the 2003 development of Bullring Birmingham, which has 160 stores including Selfridges. Midlands architects 3DReid designed a new development nearby on High Street.

The area has been a major market since the Middle Ages. St. Martins church pokes into the site, creating an interesting avenue of space that is often used for outdoor events. Upper walkways and a variety of building facades contribute to a busy space. Narrow but tall spaces in the pedestrian zone lead to a central rotunda... I wish American developers would follow this simple but effective solution! Glenn Howells Architects designed the 81m, 23 floor rotunda.
