Behnisch Architekten designed the Marco Polo residential tower in HafenCity Hamburg, on the Elbe river. The 55m tower was completed in 2010.
The twisting structure recalls Malmo's Turning Torso building. But the smaller scale and more individual character of each living unit is appropriate for residential. These gestures towards favorable views reflects a new strategy in architecture.
