Natural History Museum, New York City
Calvert Vaux and J. Wrey Mould designed the Victorian Gothic American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in Manhattan New York City, NY, just on the edge of Central Park. It was completed in 1877.
The building soon received a neo-Romanesque extension by J. Cleaveland Cady, and many other changes through the years. The museum is divided into subjects, with an ehibition hall of Ocean life, Human Evolution, Minerals, Meteorites, and Fossils. Each have impressive examples. The diaramas, featured in Night at the Museum are equally impressive, with a lesser-known Rose Center Planetarium suspended in a large glazed from. This triumph of architecture and history is featured in many media productions, from Catcher in the Rye to Grand Theft Auto.
