Carlos Zapata designed the recently completed Cooper Square Hotel in Bowery New York City, with interiors by Antonio Citterio. The 21 story tower has 145 rooms that slightly twist round a glass and steel structure. The aluminum exterior has fritted glass sculpted "like a tree" as it rises in the skyline. The clean white form is an ironic addition to the gringy East Village part of Manhattan. The designer achieves a sort of integration with nature as gardens are planted on the ground level and a light airiness tints off the dynamic glass.
