The 1.45-mile section of elevated freight railroad in west Manhattan opened as a refurbished urban greenway Park for pedestrians in June 2009. James Corner Field Operations, Piet Oudolf and Diller Scofidio + Renfro contributed to the $50 million. Inspired by natural plant growth on the site during its abandonment, over 210 species now fill the cracks and crevices of this modern urban ruin.

The High Line has views of the greatest cityscape on earth, with the Furstenberg headquarters and Frank Gehry's Interactive Corp IAC headquarters close by. A Whitney Museum project on the terminus of the park by Renzo Piano is reportedly underway.
