The Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto opened in 1987, with two galleries: Palazzo delle Albere in Trento and Casa-Museo Fortunato Depero in Rovereto. It was enlarged by architect Renato Rizzi, and a new large complex designed by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli. That was completed in 2002.

The basement contains the Archivio del '900 library of historical archives, the first floor has temporary exhibitions, and the second and third floor contain the main exhibition spaces. Fortunato Depero and other Italian futurists are particularly celebrated in the collections. It also explores modern propaganda in art.

The spectacular domed copula over the main courtyard allows the visitor to orient himself using the sun's position. The sleek use of steel, glass, and traditional Italian materials sets a great setting for this kind of art.
