Sogo & Shinsaibashi Arcade, Chuo-ku Osaka

Murano oversaw the refurnished SOGO flagship department store in Shinsaibashi Osaka. This followed a $384 million sale of the historic building after the company was hit with bankruptcy. Completed by 2005, the building has wavy mesh panels on the exterior and transparent layers at the entrance.

Next to it stands the Kengo Kuma building with Louis Vuitton, which seems like a stone cube, but lights up at night. Louis Vuitton also first started out in Osaka, and is currently planning a new flagship store in Osaka, designed by UN Studio.
