Vulcano Buono Mall, Nola Italy

A shopping mall that is green? Shops that are within walking distance, that would be green. Or downtown with mass transit. But the sea of parking lots in this far-off mall seems counter-productive to me. Mark this down as another fake green building.

But the design concept for Vulcano Buono is fascinating, a massive cone shaped structure in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius, a constant reminder of nature's power. Renzo Piano's recent volcano building seeks to promote environmentalism with outdoor commercial features mixed with forests and plantings, passive solar strategies, and a great green roof. The concentric circles blend into the landscape.
